Abstract

The implementation of theoretical and practical resources to confront the relentless violence that threatens Mexican society is of great urgency. It is an ethical demand that will emerge from the pluralities that make up the communities, and that is evidenced by the voices of those who resist, demanding respect and listening to illegal acts such as the forced disappearances of a large number of people. “From below” resonances are sought in communal actions woven in solidarity, cooperation, reciprocity, and mutuality to build justice. Peace will emerge when the demands of those excluded from the system and those most deeply violated are addressed. The communal voices are added to the approaches of Johan Galtung, who founded and cemented theoretical resources to confront violence and, with them, achieve peaceful situations. Galtung is the essential pillar and founder of peace studies and encourages us to generate possibilities to coin a meaning of peace, such as emergent peace. This peace can emerge in spaces where many people have been marginalized by perpetually living different types of injustice. Besides being a methodology that springs from joint and communal action, the emergent is a central input to erect the concept of peace amid realities in which forced disappearances occur. All this, based on the theoretical frameworks built by Galtung, enhances the possibilities of transcendence of this violence, giving way to a culture of peace that emerges as a pressing need.
