The internationalization of higher education as a strategy for a culture of peace to transform the conflict in Sinaloa: A perspective on the thinking of Johan Galtung

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to analyze the internationalization of higher education as a strategy for cultural coexistence in regions that are globally related to drug trafficking and violence, as the state of Sinaloa in Mexico. To achieve this objective, was used the Johan Galtung´s Trascend Method, with the purpose of linking the experience of the university community; teachers and students, in international activities and the promotion and the practice of values such as tolerance, respect, inclusión among others, as principles of non violence. For this reason, it is proposed to carry out a diagnosis, prognosis and therapy that contributes to peace processes in the state. The qualitative, analysis of institutional documents, as well as interviews with participants in the student mobility and academic exchange program of the Autonomous University of Sinaloa (UAS), an educational institution with the highest enrollment in the northwest of the country. The above shows that university actors, coming from different academic disciplines, show great interest and motivation to put into practice theis internatinoal educational learning (cultural Exchange, collaborative research, academic networks, international agreements, etc) as an essential tool to educate global citizens, and to contribute to the construction of spaces to significantly transform the conflicto. This through pacifist internationalizacion, takin into account the context of Sinaloa.
